Sad news has shaken Argentine lower-division soccer in recent hours. Lucas Ignacio Pires, a former Almirante Brown player, was murdered in the town of Rafael Castillo, in the district of La Matanza, after a violent street fight that ended with a fatal attack using the edge of a broken bottle. The main hypothesis of the justice system points to an intra-family conflict, and one of the victim's brothers was arrested as the main suspect.
The incident took place last Friday night at the corner of Raulíes and Alagón, where an argument in the middle of a public street escalated until it resulted in an extreme assault. According to police sources, Pires suffered a deep cut on his right forearm, which affected an artery and caused extreme blood loss.
Pires murió poco después de ingresar al hospital
Family members and neighbors rushed him to Hospital Presidente Néstor Kirchner, but despite the efforts of the medical staff, they were unable to save his life. Minutes after his admission, his death was confirmed.
The first indications of the investigation rule out an attempted robbery and reinforce the hypothesis of a fight between people who knew each other. In that regard, testimonies collected at the scene directly identified one of Pires's brothers as the perpetrator of the attack. In addition, the prosecutor's office is analyzing footage from a security camera that reportedly captured the entire sequence of the crime.
Officers from Comisaría 2ª Sur, together with personnel from DDI and the Criminal Intelligence unit, carried out operations in the area to locate those responsible. The case is in the hands of prosecutor Carlos Adrián Arribas, from the Thematic Homicide Functional Unit of La Matanza, who ordered the arrest of the main suspect and continues to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
