In the middle of the preseason of Formula 1, a report from the specialized site revealed the salaries of the drivers on the 2026 grid. The published list includes Argentine Franco Colapinto, who will have his first full season from the start with Alpine, and he appears among the lowest earners.
According to the ranking released by RacingNews365, the driver from Pilar receives an estimated base salary of between 500,000 and 1 million dollars per season, a figure similar to that of rookie Arvid Lindblad, who will make his debut this year with Racing Bulls.
The difference within his own team is striking. While Colapinto earns like a rookie, his teammate Pierre Gasly is on a much higher tier, with a contract that is around 12 million dollars per year. That inequality is repeated across the grid and confirms the gap between young drivers who are trying to establish themselves and the established stars.
Colapinto gana de base más de 10 veces menos que Gasly
At the top of the list is Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who comfortably leads with a base salary of 70 million dollars per season. Behind him is Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), with 60 million, followed by his teammate Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and George Russell (Mercedes), both with earnings close to 34 million annually. Further down appears Lando Norris, the most recent world champion, with a contract worth 30 million at McLaren.
The report clarifies that the amounts are not official but are instead estimates based on interviews with various sources in the paddock. In addition, the published figures do not include performance bonuses or personal deals with sponsors, items that can significantly increase final earnings, especially in the case of front-running drivers.
