In a significant turn in the case of Felipe Pettinato, the date of the trial that will determine his possible responsibility in the death of Melchor Rodrigo, who died in a fire in his apartment in May 2022, has finally been revealed.

According to information provided by Guido Záffora, the trial will begin in September of this year, after nearly two years of investigations and speculation.

Possible sentences: between 8 and 20 years in prison

The case involves a fire that, according to the court, was not caused with the intention to kill, but rather to start the fire that ended Rodrigo's life.

Journalist Martín Candalaft  explained that the trial will be held for the crime of "fire followed by death," and emphasized that the sentence could range from 8 to 20 years in prison.

Although the prosecution believes that Pettinato did not plan his friend's death, he is accused of having deliberately started the fire, which caused the tragedy.

Calls for help and Felipe Pettinato's responsibility

The court file also includes  crucial details about the events following the fire. Although it has been confirmed that Pettinato tried to ask for help, by repeatedly calling for assistance for Rodrigo, the prosecutor pointed out that there is no evidence suggesting that he did anything effective to try to rescue him.

The report concludes that, after starting the fire, Pettinato quickly left the scene without taking measures to prevent the tragedy.
