Total failure: 95% of businesses in CABA didn't join the general strike

This is revealed by a survey conducted by the Federation of Commerce and Industry of the City of Buenos Aires (FECOBA)

95% of the businesses in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires decided not to join the general strike called by the CGT for this Wednesday, according to a survey conducted by the Federation of Commerce and Industry of the City of Buenos Aires (FECOBA).

Despite the lack of a massive shutdown, the report reveals that merchants experienced a 25% drop in sales during the day. The study was conducted in 48 shopping centers in the city and shows that the majority of businesses, although open, couldn't maintain their usual customer flow.

Although part of the public transportation operated normally, the lower circulation of people was noticeable in the commercial areas of the microcenter and macrocenter of Buenos Aires. This drop in activity negatively impacted small and medium-sized enterprises, which have been facing an adverse economic scenario.

In the words of the president of FECOBA, Fabián Castillo,  "it's evident the need that exists in the SME commercial sector to face this recessionary situation, so a strike of activities negatively impacts at this moment".

According to the leader, commerce needs to operate at full capacity to sustain its profitability and preserve employment.
