René Franco exposes the failure of the Megafarmacia del Bienestar

The comedian mocks on social media and highlights the government's unfulfilled promises

The comedian and host René Franco caused a stir on social media after posting a message loaded with sarcasm on his X account:

"Good morning. Is the megapharmacy working yet or is it still another big screw-up? Have a good one!"

The post, marked by an ironic tone, reflects the frustration of many citizens with the inefficiency of the federal government. The Megapharmacy of Well-being, one of López Obrador's flagship health projects, has fallen short of delivering on its promises.

A promise unfulfilled

The Megapharmacy, located in Huehuetoca, State of Mexico, was presented as the solution to the medication shortage across the country.

With a capacity to store up to 286 million pieces, it was announced that it could fill prescriptions within a maximum of 48 hours. But the reality is different.

By April 2024, the Megapharmacy had only filled 341 prescriptions, averaging just 2.7 prescriptions daily.

In comparison, the IMSS reported in 2022 an average of 613,000 prescriptions filled daily. Additionally, the warehouse began operations with just 0.9% of its capacity and it was revealed that it used borrowed medications from IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS-Bienestar to stock its shelves.

Logistical and distribution failures

Experts warn that centralizing the supply of medications in a single location has been a mistake. The lack of coordination between regional warehouses and clinics, as well as the absence of an efficient distribution system, prevent supplies from reaching patients.

To make matters worse, the Megapharmacy began operating without the necessary licenses and without authorization from Cofepris, further exacerbating its legality and reliability.

A resonating criticism

René Franco's post was supported by thousands of users who shared their frustration with the incompetence of the self-proclaimed Fourth Transformation.

With biting humor, the comedian highlighted a problem affecting millions of Mexicans that, despite promises, remains unsolved.

His comment, beyond a simple mockery, is a call to attention on the failure of a key public policy that has been used for propaganda purposes.
