Trump reaffirmed his defense of AI before Xi Jinping and rejected global control of technology

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, reaffirmed his defense of the development of artificial intelligence and rejected any attempt to impose global regulation on this technology. He also indicated that superintelligence will be one of the central topics of his upcoming conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Through Truth Social, Trump described the upcoming dialogue with Xi as a “significant day” and noted that superintelligence will be a central issue of the conversation. At the same time, he stated that he does not intend to change the current landscape and affirmed that this position is also shared by China.

Trump promotes the concept of superintelligence

During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Trump announced that the United States will begin using the term “superintelligence” instead of artificial intelligence in its official documentation.

The president explained that he believes the word “artificial” conveys a misleading idea about a technology he described as extraordinary. Trump also rejected any “globalist scheme” aimed at regulating or controlling its development and defended U.S. sovereignty against any potential international governance of AI.

The White House rejected global regulation

Trump's position contrasted with the requests made to the UN by leaders of some of the major artificial intelligence companies. Sam Altman of OpenAI and Dario Amodei of Anthropic called for coordinated oversight mechanisms in light of the potential risks of increasingly autonomous systems.

Amodei warned about the risks that could arise from poorly managed technology development, while Altman argued that the challenges related to AI cannot be faced in isolation by governments, companies, or laboratories.

From the White House, Science and Technology Advisor Michael Kratsios defended Trump's position and rejected an international regulatory framework. Instead, he suggested that international organizations should focus on sharing practices and helping to develop national capabilities.

Trump, for his part, stated that the counterbalance to the development of superintelligence must remain within U.S. institutions, rather than falling under a global governance structure.
