Trump marked the field for RINO Maria Elvira Salazar for criticizing the tough border policy

Donald Trump shared at least 14 posts on Truth Social in recent hours harshly criticizing the "RINO" (Republican in name only) Maria Elvira Salazar, after she said that the president's immigration policy had gone too far.

Comments from users of the social network that were shared by the president expressed: "She is nothing more than a traitor"; "She wants amnesty for people who illegally crossed our borders defying our laws" and "So we need a NEW Republican to replace Salazar".

Salazar is a Cuban-American congresswoman currently serving her third term in Congress representing Florida's 27th District. "Mr. President, some of your immigration control efforts have gone too far," she stated last week. "Be careful what your advisors tell you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today," she added.

Before sharing the comments from her supporters on social media, Trump had reacted to Salazar's remarks stating that the congresswoman "got a little soft on the border" and clarifying that he "did not share that stance". The president also claimed that Salazar would not have risen to Congress in 2020 without his support, when she defeated Democrat Donna Shalala.

Days later, on the Face The Nation program, Salazar assured that she had a "fantastic" and "very good" conversation with Trump after the announcement, stating that he was "very courteous" and "very receptive," and that she told him he could "keep the pot of gold" he brought to the Republican Party among Hispanic voters in 2024 if he differentiated between "the drug dealer and the nanny, and the gangster and the gardener".
