President Donald Trump announced this Monday at a press conference at the White House that he will federally intervene in Washington D.C., thus taking control of the police force and deploying the National Guard in the city.
After the assault on a former DOGE staff member, part of a series of reported security incidents that add to the growing homelessness in the city, with this measure Trump seeks to fight crime by deploying more than 1,000 National Guard troops.
"Washington, D.C. WILL BE LIBERATED today! Crime, barbarism, filth, and scum WILL DISAPPEAR. I will MAKE OUR CAPITAL GREAT AGAIN! The days of killing or injuring innocent people with impunity ARE OVER! I quickly fixed the border ("ZERO ILLEGALS in the last 3 months!"), D.C. is next!" wrote the president on social media.

"Criminals don't have to move. We're going to put them in jail, where they belong"
Trump had announced on Truth Social his intention to federalize the capital next weekend, stating that it "has been taken over by violent and bloodthirsty criminal gangs, mobs of wild youths, drugged maniacs, and homeless people" and that under his presidency "this would not continue to happen."
"We will have a press conference tomorrow at the White House. I'm going to make our capital safer and more beautiful than ever before," the president continued on his social network, adding that "the homeless have to leave, IMMEDIATELY. We will give them places to stay, but FAR from the capital."
"Criminals, you don't have to move. We're going to put you in jail, where you belong. Everything is going to happen very quickly, just like at the border. We went from millions entering to ZERO in recent months. This will be easier — get ready! There won't be "MR. NICE GUY." We want our capital back. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he concluded.

The current situation.
Prior to the announcement of this morning's federal deployment, the White House reported that there were about 450 federal agents — from divisions such as the Amtrak Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Department of the Interior — who were already present in the city throughout the weekend.
The agents made multiple arrests on Saturday night for crimes such as theft, possession of unlicensed weapons, and even detained an undocumented immigrant who had a deportation order. They also seized drugs such as fentanyl, crack, and methamphetamines.
The D.C. National Guard has a capacity of 2,700 troops available. It is the only National Guard unit in the country that responds exclusively to the president and is expected to be this same force that restores order to one of the most important places in the country that has been ruined by Democratic policies.
