Trump will charge illegal immigrants per day if they don't leave the country.
The Republican administration will impose daily fines on those illegal immigrants who have to leave the United States and refuse to do so
The Trump administration has announced a new approach to dealing with illegal immigrants who have not complied with a deportation order. From now on, illegal immigrants who do not leave the United States will face a daily fine of USD 998 if they do not leave the country voluntarily.
Tricia McLaughlin, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stated in an interview that illegal immigrants should use the CBP Home app to self-deport.
Otherwise, they will face consequences, which include fines for each day they stay past the deadline of the deportation order.
This measure is based on a 1996 law that had not been enforced until Trump's first term in 2018.

The administration plans to apply these sanctions retroactively to illegal immigrants for up to five years, which could result in fines exceeding one million dollars, according to an administration official. Additionally, if illegal immigrants do not pay the fine, the government could seize their assets, according to the report.
An informational brochure provided to Fox News details the "benefits" and "consequences" of self-deportation. In the benefits section, the brochure states that self-deportation is safe and allows illegal immigrants to leave "on their own terms" by choosing their departure flight.
Additionally, those immigrants who do not have criminal records will be able to keep the money they earned in the United States and maintain their eligibility for future legal immigration applications. Some may even be eligible for subsidized flights if they have difficulty affording a ticket.

On the other hand, the brochure also describes the consequences for those who do not self-deport. Those who do not will be detained by DHS without the opportunity to organize their affairs beforehand, which implies a detention process without prior notice.
Additionally, illegal immigrants who do not comply with the final deportation order will be subject to a daily fine of USD 998, and those who do not self-deport after stating they would could face an additional fine of between USD 1,000 and 5,000.
The brochure also warns that illegal immigrants who do not self-deport could face prison time and, furthermore, would be "barred from re-entering the United States through the legal immigration system" in the future.

This measure is seen as a strategy to deter illegal immigrants from staying in the country after receiving deportation orders, encouraging migrants to voluntarily leave the country to avoid more severe consequences.
Meanwhile, immigrant rights advocates have expressed their concerns about these measures, arguing that they could generate more fear and distrust among immigrants and hinder cooperation with authorities on public safety issues.
