UNC: teachers suspend exams and threaten to leave thousands of students without classes

ADIUC ratified the strike and the refusal to hold July-August exams, despite the direct impact on educational continuity

The National University of Córdoba is experiencing a conflict that once again puts the normal development of the academic calendar at risk. This time, the Asociación de Docentes e Investigadores Universitarios de Córdoba has decided to suspend exams and not start the second semester. The measures come amid salary and budget demands, but directly affect students.

The decision was made by ADIUC after an internal consultation in which more than 1,600 faculty members participated. According to reports, 99.2% voted in favor of intensifying the industrial action. The vote reflects union consensus, although it leaves thousands of students who are waiting to take exams or attend classes without answers.

The union justified the suspension by stating that "the conditions for the normal development of academic activities are not in place." They report salary decreases, lack of budget, and absence of responses from the Government. However, the decision once again places students as hostages of a union dispute.

No exams or classes

As a result of the decision, all July and August exam sessions have been suspended indefinitely. The measure was accompanied by progressive strikes and a call for federal actions with other unions. It was also announced that second semester classes will not begin until further notice.

The conflict has a direct impact on those who need to regularize courses, advance in their degrees, or graduate. Some schools, such as Philosophy, Psychology, and Social Sciences, have already announced that the calendar is paralyzed. Meanwhile, students face uncertainty and delays due to circumstances beyond their control.

The protest includes a demand for the University Funding Law, promoted by the University Union Front. The bill proposes raising the budget to 1.5% of GDP and updating salaries according to inflation. Although it has not yet been debated in Congress, ADIUC is making the continuation of academic activities conditional on the approval of this bill.

Meanwhile, the university union has already announced new protest days for the coming days. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Capital keeps its position of negotiating university by university. The situation highlights one fact: once again, students are paying the price for a conflict that faculty members choose to bring into the classroom.
