Enzo Fernández's unusual superstition almost complicated the national team in Qatar 2022.
An Albiceleste equipment manager recalled an anecdote with the midfielder before the quarterfinal match against the Netherlands
In the midst of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Nicolás Pérez, the kit manager for the Argentina National Team, experienced a situation that, over time, turned into a funny anecdote with Enzo Fernández, although at the time it caused tension.
On the streaming show Había que decirlo from El Trece, Pérez recounted: "I always tell a story that happened to me with Enzo before playing the match against the Netherlands. He has a pair of tights that he uses as a good luck charm, and he always takes them to wash and keeps them separate from the rest of his clothes, in case they get lost. I would leave them in their place and he would wash them."

The problem arose after the round of 16 match against Australia, when Fernández forgot to take the garment with him and the kit manager, without noticing, put it away in a trunk along with all the other gear.
"He also forgot, and when the next match came, we always go about seven hours early to prepare everything. He calls me and says: "Do you have the tights?" I didn't remember and thought: What does he want them for? Until I remembered the trunk and there they were, dirty for four days," he said, laughing.
Pérez took care of washing them by hand and summed up the moment with humor: "It was ten minutes of tension, it seemed like we were going to lose the World Cup over a pair of tights, but we made it."
Finally, Argentina defeated the Netherlands in the penalty shootout and advanced toward the third star, which they won after beating Croatia in the semifinals and France in the grand final.
