Brazilian football is experiencing a moment of mourning after the tragic and unusual death of Antony Ylano, a young 20-year-old forward for Piauí Esporte Clube, who died in the early hours of Monday after crashing his motorcycle into a cow on a highway in the state of Piauí.
The accident occurred at 3:15 a.m., when the footballer was returning from a family gathering in the municipality of Altos. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the player encountered several loose animals on the road and was unable to avoid them, crashing directly into one of them. The impact caused fatal injuries, and official reports indicated that he died instantly, after being thrown from the vehicle.
The news shocked the local sports community not only because of the absurd nature of the accident, but also because, shortly before the incident, Ylano had shared on social mediaa story celebrating his father's birthday, with the phrase: "The best in the world".
In a statement, Piauí Esporte Clube expressed its sorrow: "Piauí Esporte Clube is experiencing a moment of deep grief over the loss of Ylano, a victim of an accident this morning. Ylano has worn Piauizão's colors since 2024 and played with us in the Piauiense U-20, Copa São Paulo Jr., and Copa do Nordeste U-20 categories. In another challenge for the club, the athlete was preparing to travel with the squad competing in the Copa do Brasil U-20. The club announces that Monday's activities are canceled out of respect for the family's mourning and for the entire Piauí EC team".

Other clubs where the young man played, such as Altos and Fluminense-PI, also issued statements, suspending their activities and recalling his time in the youth divisions and his state championship in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Ylano had made his professional debut in 2023 with Altos, in Serie C of Brazilian football, and was emerging as one of the most promising talents in Piauí football.
