United States intensified its naval presence in the Caribbean mainly to combat drug trafficking, considering that several cartels constitute global terrorist organizations. The Nicolás Maduro regime replied to the deployment with strong criticism. The dictator claims that there is a threat to Venezuelan sovereignty and an attempt at covert military pressure.
