Guillermo Vélez is looking for Chiquito Romero and has other former Boca players on the list.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto is focused on the remaining commitments for Copa Libertadores, but he is already starting to plan for the second half of 2025. In this context, the Mellizo has already communicated to the management led by Fabián Berlanga that he intends to add at least four new signings. Among his priorities is a goalkeeper with experience, and the name of Sergio Chiquito Romero has started to gain traction.

The goalkeeper, runner-up in the world in Brazil 2014, continues to recover from the injury to his right knee, which led him to undergo surgery in mid-January and caused him multiple complications.

So far in 2025, he hasn't had any minutes on the field, although he is already doing fieldwork and it is estimated that in about two or three weeks he could gradually join the practices with the group. However, everything indicates that he will be relegated after the arrival of Agustín Marchesín, who joined the squad this summer as the first option.

Chiquito's intention is to return to the starting position at Boca when he fully overcomes his physical discomfort and is in optimal condition. However, if the coach at the time decides to continue with the former Lanús goalkeeper as the starter, his departure in the next transfer window is not ruled out. In Liniers, they are alert to this concrete possibility.

In the Fortín's environment, there is a version circulating that there have already been contacts with the goalkeeper's associates to learn about his situation. Romero has a contract with Boca until December, but there would be no issues with him leaving in June in search of new challenges. From the club of La Ribera, they wouldn't put obstacles to his departure, given that he keeps a cordial relationship with both Juan Román Riquelme and the rest of the Football Council.

The other two targeted by the Mellizo: Andrada and Magallán

Romero, however, is not the only alternative that the Vélez coaching staff is considering to strengthen the goal at José Amalfitani. In recent hours, a member of the Mellizo's team contacted Esteban Andrada, whom he knows well from his time at the xeneize institution.

Sabandija, who was part of the squad in the memorable final in Madrid in 2018, currently defends the goal of Rayados de Monterrey, a club that recently lost its coach after the dismissal of Martín Demichelis. Andrada still has two years of contract ahead, although he has received offers to return to Argentine football.

Another name that appears on the radar of the Fortín's coach is that of a defender also ex-Boca and coached by him during his cycle at the Xeneize. It is Lisandro Magallán, who had a last stint with Pumas UNAM of Mexico, where he became a free agent.

Starter in that final against River at Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Magallán has several offers from both local and international football. He will take some time to evaluate his future, and Vélez emerges as an attractive option among the possibilities.
