After a woman who worked as his stylist made a public accusation of alleged sexual harassment, Axel decided to break the silence and give his version of the events. The singer categorically denied having inappropriate behavior and linked the conflict to a financial claim that, he stated, began after their working relationship ended.
The musician spoke privately with journalist Pilar Smith, who revealed some details of the conversation on LAM. According to her, the artist appeared affected by the situation and claimed he had known Griselda, the woman who made the accusation, for many years.
“He is very sad, very sad because he says he has known Griselda since she was a teenager, that he met her husband, that they went to his shows together, that he saw her baby grow up, that later she separated, that she went through very difficult situations and he supported her at all times,” Smith recounted about what the singer expressed.
“We worked together for 10 months and then a financial difference arose with the person on my team who handled those payments. She said she was owed money and my team told me otherwise. I was completely unaware of that discussion,” the singer stated, according to the journalist.
According to his account, he later received a formal letter and the conflict reached a mediation stage.
“I receive a formal letter, we go to mediation, and a claim that originally was for a little over 2 million ends up becoming a request for 100 million, also incorporating a supposed situation of discomfort with me, inappropriate behavior. I categorically deny that,” he asserted.
Axel stated that his lawyers are considering a counterclaim
During his conversation with Smith, the musician also mentioned that he brought the matter to his lawyers and is analyzing how to proceed in light of the accusation.
“Pili, you know me, you know what kind of person I am. My lawyers are even considering a counterclaim for possible extortion due to the way that financial claim was linked to this accusation,” he expressed.
However, Axel stated that he is willing to resolve any labor debt that may actually exist with the woman.
Axel would seek to negotiate the debt he has with the woman
“Now, if there is a real debt, I want to pay it. I said: ‘Tell me how much is outstanding, I will take care of it personally and let’s even acknowledge the time that has passed.’ I don’t want to owe a penny to anyone who has worked with me,” he stated.
What he ruled out was agreeing to the amount that, according to his version, is currently being claimed. “What I will not do is accept a claim for 100 million associated with an accusation that I absolutely deny,” he concluded.
