Winter vacation: 7 free plans to enjoy with the family in Buenos Aires

Guided tours, giant dinosaurs, and literary walks to entertain adults and children

The City of Buenos Aires is filled with free activities for this winter break. Starting July 16, large parks, museums, and outdoor activities invite you to enjoy unforgettable days with the little ones.
Whether you're looking for a historical tour, a paleontological adventure, or to connect with nature, here is a guide with 7 unmissable free-entry plans.

1. Tour the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve

A classic that never disappoints. The Ecological Reserve offers guided walks from Tuesday to Sunday to get a close look at its flora, fauna, and natural walkways.
The tour lasts an hour and a half, ideal for reconnecting with nature without leaving the city. There are departures on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. from the north entrance (Viamonte) and on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. from the south entrance (Brasil).

2. Children's and Young Adult Book Fair at Palacio Libertad

From July 16 to August 3,  Palacio Libertad (Sarmiento 151) opens its doors for a new edition of the Children's and Young Adult Book Fair.
More than 70 stands, workshops, playful activities, and meetings with authors await children and teenagers so they can immerse themselves in the world of literature.
Admission is free and the hours are Wednesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

3. "Painting La Boca": cultural tour with a visit to the Quinquela

A guided walk through La Boca that includes tenement houses, Caminito, the old port, and entry to the Benito Quinquela Martín Museum of Fine Arts.
The activity ends with a playful proposal for children, and it's perfect for discovering the history of the city's most picturesque neighborhood.
It's free and requires prior registration. Canceled in case of rain.

4. Riverside walk in the new Parque Costero

Parque del Vega (Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado 4899), on the Vega Peninsula, is a brand-new green space by the river that is part of the BA Costa plan.
It covers five hectares (12.36 acres) and connects with the Saint Tropez extreme sports park. Ideal for an afternoon outdoors with views of the water.

5. Travel back in time with the Historic Tram of Caballito

A Buenos Aires gem: riding the original tram that ran through the city until the 1960s.
The tour, which doesn't require a reservation, takes place in Caballito on Saturdays and holidays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Each ride lasts 20 minutes and the experience is designed down to the smallest detail, from the conductor's attire to the ticket delivery.

6. Visit the world's largest dinosaur in Palermo

Until August 31, Parque Carlos Thays (Av. del Libertador 2048) is exhibiting a monumental replica of Patagotitan mayorum, the largest dinosaur on the planet.
It is 40 meters (131 feet) long and 8 meters (26 feet) tall. It was recreated by the team from the Egidio Feruglio Museum in Trelew using 3D scans and precise craft-made techniques.
A free, unique, and unmissable experience for prehistory enthusiasts.

7. A park full of surprises: Winter Park

Parque de la Ciudad (Av. Coronel Roca 4151) offers a program that brings together several playful activities for families.
