Is the Witch Leaving? Kathleen Kennedy Threatened to Leave the Presidency of Lucasfilm

Kathleen Kennedy, one of the most controversial figures in the film industry in Hollywood, informed her close circle about her decision to step down as president of Lucasfilm at the end of 2025.

The news, reported by various media outlets in the United States, marks the end of a bad period for the company, which she began to lead in 2012 after Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm.

The acquisition, valued at 4 billion dollars, initiated a new chapter for Star Wars, with Kennedy, known for her "woke" and far-left ideology, leading the relaunch of the saga and other iconic franchises like Indiana Jones.

However, her departure from the company founded by George Lucas occurs at a critical moment, and many consider that her management significantly harmed the brand in recent years.

Kennedy's arrival at Lucasfilm took place during a transition period. Initially appointed as co-president alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas, she assumed full control of the company when he chose to retire.

During her management, the space franchise returned to theaters after a decade of absence with Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), directed by J.J. Abrams. The film not only reignited enthusiasm for the saga but also grossed more than 2 billion dollars at the box office.

The beginning of the decline

However, the initial success of the new trilogy lost momentum over time due to the outrageous decisions made by Kennedy.

While The Last Jedi (2017) caused a strong division among fans due to its narrative approach, The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the final chapter of the trilogy, received mixed reviews and failed to match the financial impact of its predecessor. This led to many being dismissed, although Kennedy resisted stepping down.

During her tenure, Kathleen Kennedy made decisions that sparked strong controversies, especially due to the woke policies and forced inclusion implemented in the franchise.

One of the most notorious cases occurred during the filming of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), when directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were removed from the project due to creative differences, being replaced by Ron Howard. Despite the change in direction, the film became the first in the franchise not to recoup its investment at the box office.

Beyond the Star Wars universe, Kennedy was also at the helm of the production of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), the fifth installment of the legendary saga starring Harrison Ford.

Directed by James Mangold, the film attempted to provide a worthy conclusion to the iconic character created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, although its critical and commercial reception was not as expected and ended up being a box office failure.
