The Argentine forward scored a brace in Colchoneros' 5-2 thrashing in the Madrid classic

With a turbulent start to the season, Atlético de Madrid regained some shine against none other than Real Madrid, its classic rival. Los Colchoneros won 5-2 at home against Los Blancos, in a match that featured two former River players, Franco Mastantuono and Julián Álvarez, who scored twice and was the standout player of the match.

At the start of the match, Le Normand put the home team ahead with a header, but Los Merengues turned the game around with goals from Mbappé and Arda Güler. Later, Alexander Sørloth equalized at the end of the first half, leaving everything open for the second half.

In the second half, the match had a clear protagonist: Julián Álvarez. Within minutes, Güler committed an unbelievable penalty after colliding with Nico González's head, and the Argentine converted it into a goal.

Later on, La Araña scored again, this time with a spectacular free-kick goal. After drawing the foul himself, he executed a perfect shot over the wall that beat Courtois, leaving his mark on a fast-paced and thrilling match.

Although Real tried everything to find a way back, Atleti's defense and Oblak's saves managed to hold the score for almost half an hour after the Argentine striker's last goal, even increasing the lead near the end thanks to a goal from the recently substituted Griezmann, thus winning a classic full of goals and excitement.

With this result, Atlético de Madrid moved up in the LaLiga standings, now occupying fourth place with 12 points, 6 behind Real Madrid, which for now is the sole leader pending Barcelona's match against Real Sociedad.
