YPF will invest USD 400 million in the Puna electrification project

The investment aims to develop the energy infrastructure of Catamarca and Salta

In a breakthrough for the mining industry and energy development in the north of the Republic of Argentina, the governors of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz; Catamarca, Raúl Jalil; and Jujuy, Carlos Sadir, announced a investment of 400 million dollars in private capital for the electrification project of the Puna.

The signing of the agreement with the companies YPF Luz and Central Puerto represents a decisive commitment to renewable energy, productive growth, and the modernization of the region.

The meeting took place in Salta as part of a new meeting of the Lithium Board, where representatives of the Regional Lithium Committee and ECLAC participated.

The agreement not only guarantees the electricity supply to the households of Catamarca and Salta, but also strengthens the energy infrastructure of the mining production complex that both provinces share, generating more jobs and guaranteeing legal security for investors. "We also agreed with Salta to guarantee the legal security of the 'Fénix' project in the Salar del Hombre Muerto", highlighted Jalil through his X account.

Under the management of President Javier Milei, Argentina is advancing on a development model based on the trust of the private sector. The fiscal harmonization of lithium mining activity is one of the keys to this strategy, aiming to make the sector more efficient and competitive.

"We are advancing on a strategic agenda: the fiscal harmonization of lithium mining activity", assured Sáenz, reaffirming the commitment to the sector's growth.

The technical cooperation agreement will allow for an accurate estimation of the tax burden in the three provinces, promoting an efficient and equitable system that favors investment and economic development.

"We want the wealth caused by lithium to translate into roads, schools, health, energy, and employment for our people", highlighted the governor of Salta, emphasizing the importance of territorial equity.

Meanwhile, the governor of Jujuy, Carlos Sadir, emphasized the importance of private investment as a growth engine. "If everyone grows, Jujuy grows alongside", he expressed enthusiastically.

The electrification project of the Puna presented by YPF Luz and Central Puerto will not only benefit the mining projects but also the communities that reside and work in the area, reducing historical asymmetries and ensuring a sustainable future for the region.
