YPF will enable payment for gasoline and diesel with dollars through its application

The initiative is aimed at promoting the use of the dollar in everyday transactions

YPF has begun updating its application to transform it into a digital wallet that will allow payments linked to mobility services. The company will add the option to pay for fuel in dollars, with direct debit in that currency, through the YPF App. This feature will begin to be available in the coming weeks.

The initiative is part of a strategy by Javier Milei's government aimed at promoting the use of the dollar in everyday transactions. Although the use of debit cards in dollars has been enabled since March, this method is still mainly used for purchasing goods such as cars or properties.

With this development, the state-owned oil company is providing a new digital option to its more than 4.5 million active users of the application. Meanwhile, YPF plans to expand the scope of the nighttime discount, one of the most valued benefits by its customers.

Since its implementation, the company has recorded a 28% increase in fuel sales made between midnight and 6 a.m., compared to the average of the previous three months. This increase was especially evident at service stations located in urban areas with high vehicle traffic.

Currently, those who refuel during that time frame receive a 3% discount, which rises to 6% if they use the YPF App in combination with the self-service system. Thanks to this advantage, the use of the application at dawn has doubled: two out of every ten liters sold between 00:00 and 06:00 are paid through digital means.

In addition, more than 50% of users who take advantage of the nighttime discount did not usually refuel at that time, which shows a change in behavior motivated by the incentives offered.

Starting in August, YPF is considering extending the 6% discount to its entire network of service stations and adding an extra 3% in cases where payment is made through the YPF App at stations equipped with the self-service system.

YPF Digital (YDI), the division responsible for leading the company's technological transformation, continues to develop the YPF App with the goal of turning it into the first digital wallet launched by a company in the energy sector in Argentina. This project was launched in April, after the company received approval from the Central Bank to operate as a Payment Service Provider (PSP).
