Correa's assembly members were summoned for supporting Santiago Díaz.

The Transparency Commission summoned them after supporting the controversial project of the fugitive assembly member

Ten assembly members from the Revolución Ciudadana were summoned by the Assembly's Transparency Commission. They initially supported a project by assembly member Santiago Díaz, who is under investigation for rape and is currently a fugitive from justice.

The support was for a proposal that sought to lower the age of sexual consent to 14 years, which caused public rejection. The signatories later withdrew their support, but they must explain their conduct before the commission.

The hearing was convened on July 17 as part of a legislative oversight process. Although CAL did not qualify the project, the commission demands accountability from those who supported it.

The assembly members called are: Mónica Palacios, Cristian Benítez, Franklin Samaniego, Jorge Abedrabbo, Patricia Mendoza, Esther Cuesta, Jhajaira Urresta, Roque Ordóñez, Cristina Jácome, and Victoria Desintonio. All must justify their support for a proposal promoted by a legislator facing serious accusations.

This case demonstrates how certain Correa-aligned caucuses promoted controversial initiatives without proper legal or technical analysis. The proposal was considered inadmissible and contrary to the principles of child protection.

The summons seeks to restore credibility in legislative decisions. Citizens demand greater transparency and responsibility within parliamentary work.

This episode exposes the need for an Assembly free from ideological improvisation and with solid technical filters. Oversight sets a precedent for sanctioning irresponsible support.

The summons of these legislators represents a firm step toward accountability in the National Assembly. The country demands that political acts, especially those that compromise essential rights, do not go unpunished or hide behind partisan rhetoric.
