The Liga2 case uncovered pressures to shelve complaints in Petroecuador

A recording revealed attempts to influence the CPCCS to halt corruption investigations

The scandal of the Liga2 casecompromised several former CPCCS councilors due to alleged pressures to shelve complaints about corruption acts in Petroecuador. An expert recording revealed the conversation between Augusto Verduga and another implicated person, in which an attempt to influence the institution through Nicole Bonifaz is mentioned.

The Prosecutor's Office is investigating four implicated individuals for the crime of illicit association, including Bonifaz, who allegedly broke ties with Alembert Vera, then president of the CPCCS, for refusing to shelve complaints. The pressure came, according to the audio, from people close to Bonifaz's mother.

The evidence was obtained from cell phones seized from Verduga, which contained more than 360 audio files. In one of them, Verduga claimed that Vera's refusal to halt the processes triggered Bonifaz's political distancing and marked a rupture in the Correaist majority of the Council.

The fiscal report indicates that the network's objective was to take control of key state institutions. This case reinforces the alerts about political structures that, under democratic discourses, have sought to shield corruption and manipulate control bodies.

The Liga2 case evidenced how power networks linked to Correaism attempted to undermine institutionalism from the CPCCS. The evidence presented by the Prosecutor's Office points to an organized strategy that deserves an exemplary sanction to prevent its repetition.
