The complaint against Paola Cabezas reignited the debate about the stability of dollarization.

The statements about the 'ecuadólares' caused official rejection and economic alarm

The words of the Correa assembly member Paola Cabezas sparked a political and legal storm after suggesting an "Ecuadorian dollarization." The ruling party legislator Nataly Morillo announced a complaint for the alleged crime of economic panic.

Morillo pointed out that Cabezas's comments caused confusion among the public by proposing a system of "Ecuadollars." She claimed that this could undermine confidence in the dollar as the only legal currency in the country.

The complaint was based on article 307 of the COIP, which penalizes the dissemination of false information that disrupts the economic order. The legislator added that even migrants expressed concern about the possibility of a covert dedollarization.

In response, Cabezas tried to downplay her statements and posted a message on social media, diverting attention to other issues. However, her party, the Citizen Revolution, distanced itself from her words, indicating that they do not represent its official economic stance.

Amid the controversy, President Daniel Noboa signed Executive Decree 565, reinforcing the exclusive use of the dollar in Ecuador. He categorically rejected any attempt to introduce unsupported alternative means of payment.

"We can't have alternative payment measures," Noboa stated, referring to proposals like Ecuadollars. The president warned that improvised initiatives could generate speculation and affect suppliers and citizens.

The official reaction demonstrates the Government's effort to ensure economic stability in times of uncertainty. The defense of dollarization is seen as a pillar of confidence for investment and growth.

Meanwhile, the Assembly is analyzing a constitutional reform to shield the dollar as the only currency. The measure seeks to prevent future attempts to establish monetary models that affect the country's legal security.

The presidential candidate of the Citizen Revolution tries to present herself as a defender of stability. However, internal contradictions and past proposals of Correa's movement weaken that narrative.

The public, amid the debate, observes a clear difference between those who seek to protect monetary stability and those who, under ambiguous speeches, risk the economic system.

The complaint against Paola Cabezas exposed the divisions within the Citizen Revolution and reaffirmed the current Government's clear line: the firm defense of dollarization. In the face of confusing speeches, stability and institutional seriousness become the best shield for Ecuador's economic future.
