Noboa calls for a new march in Guayaquil for peace and justice

The mobilization is scheduled for September 11 in one of the cities most affected by organized crime

PresidentDaniel Noboa called for a march in Guayaquil, scheduled for September 11, under the slogan "peace and justice." The initiative arises amid the severe security crisis facing the city, considered one of the most violent in the world.

Through an official statement, the president invited Ecuadorians to join, stating: "We will march to defend our families". In the shared video, images of the first demonstration held in Quito on August 12 were shown.

The Presidency of the Republic described this call as a "great civic march", whose purpose will be to peacefully express the commitment to defend democracy, peace, and justice. The official statement emphasized that this is a call for national unity.

The most recent precedent was the massive march in Quito, in which Noboa and his ministers protested in front of the Constitutional Court, after several articles of the National Solidarity, Public Integrity, and Intelligence laws were suspended. That day caused criticism due to the public exposure of the judges.

Guayaquil, epicenter of murders, kidnappings, and extortion, has lost 22% of foreign tourists in the past year. Authorities and citizens agree that insecurity has extinguished nightlife and hit the local economy.

The new march called by Noboa seeks to send a message of firmness against organized crime and, at the same time, reinforce his government's legitimacy amid the security crisis and the challenges to the Constitutional Court.
