The twice-failed presidential candidate of the United States, Hillary Clinton, harshly criticized former President Joe Biden for seeking reelection in 2024 and accused him of being primarily responsible for Donald Trump's return to the White House for a second term.
The former Secretary of State and former First Lady of the U.S. tore into her political ally during an interview in New York City. "Joe Biden made a terrible mistake. He made a terrible mistake for himself, for his legacy, and for the country. It was a terrible miscalculation," Clinton stated.
"We would have had a real contest," added the Democratic candidate who lost to Trump in 2016 and stepped back from frontline politics after that defeat. "And, unfortunately, I believe whoever had emerged from that contest, whether it was the vice president, a governor, a senator, or anyone else, would have beaten Donald Trump," Hillary noted.

A party in crisis
After losing the first presidential debate, and following nearly a week of being affected by leaks to the press and an emerging crisis in his party, Joe Biden announced he was ending his campaign to remain in the White House on July 21. At that time, the then-president posted his resignation letter on X and then endorsed Kamala Harris.
The information that emerged in the following weeks shows that Hillary was not the only figure in the Democratic Party who pressured Biden to end his campaign. According to the outlet Politico, Nancy Pelosi also threatened the then-president and demanded that he withdraw from the race.
"Nancy made it clear that they could do this the easy way or the hard way," a Democratic leader told the aforementioned outlet. "She gave them three weeks to do it the easy way. It was about to be the hard way," the source continued. Pelosi ultimately backed Kamala Harris's candidacy that year, which ended up losing decisively to Trump.
