Trump proposed Lindsey Graham's sister, Darline, to fill his seat in the Senate on an interim basis

President Donald Trump recommended this Monday morning to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster that Lindsey Graham's sister, Darline Graham Nordone, take the position of interim senator in his honor.

"I recommended to Governor Henry McMaster the wonderful sister of Lindsey Graham, Darline, to serve as interim senator for the great state of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who cared for her deeply!", the president expressed on Truth Social.

Today, at 4 PM Eastern Time, McMaster, a Republican Party member and governor of the southern state since 2017, will announce the interim replacement for the historic senator. This replacement will be able to hold the seat until January of next year, when the term of the late senator was set to end. In the meantime, a primary election will be held on a date to be determined to see who will be the Republican candidate in the Senate elections in November.

The preliminary cause of death has been revealed

Lindsey Graham passed away on Saturday night after experiencing chest pains. He was 71 years old and planned to run for re-election for his Senate seat. Preliminary findings of his death indicate that it was due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

"The death certificate will remain pending until all toxicological and microscopic tests are completed; at that time, the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and properly classify the nature of the passing," reported the office of the South Carolina senator. Although the FBI is collaborating with local authorities to clarify the details of Graham's death, no foul play is suspected.

Trump described Graham as one of the best people and senators he has known: "Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the best people and senators I have known, has died!
