The construction of the wall on the southern border ordered by President Donald Trump will be completed by the end of 2027, according to the commissioner of the Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Rodney Scott, who stated this Tuesday.
Scott detailed that a barrier with reinforced metal beams is being built on the border between the US and Mexico that will extend from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico, except in selected areas where authorities determined that such construction is not required.
"There are a couple of gaps," Scott explained. "The only places where we are not building a border wall are those where we have made a conscious decision that it is not necessary. Big Bend National Park, for example, is an extremely remote area with very, very high cliffs," the federal official added at an event in San Diego, California.
The wall will be complemented with electronic surveillance and other devices, which are expected to be installed by "approximately July, or at the latest August 2028," Scott revealed. There will be a stretch of approximately 1,900 km between both countries that will have its own physical barriers.
