President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that he is considering taking federal action to stop Mamdani's new pied-à-terre tax, which affects New Yorkers who own a second high-value home.
In summary, Mamdani plans to tax owners with second residences valued at 5 million dollars or more in the city and also certain cooperative buildings valued at over 1 million dollars.
On Monday, a New York judge temporarily blocked Mamdani's property tax while the lawsuit moves through the legal system after homeowners of these houses sued the Ugandan politician for attempting to charge them a tax "in an arbitrary and capricious manner."

In light of this situation, President Donald Trump stated that he was studying whether the federal government could intervene to stop this madness.
