While the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz continues and the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is still in place with mediating countries pressing for a new round of talks between the parties, President Donald Trump continues to expose the lack of courage of world leaders.
Today, Trump told an Italian newspaper that he was “shocked” by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's behavior, stating that he expected her to be more courageous. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, the Republican leader argued that Meloni is “very different from what he thought” and denounced his refusal to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, blocked his passage through the Iranian regime for weeks.
“I am shocked by her. I thought I had value. I was wrong”, were the words used by Trump according to an article in Italian published online. Criticizing her for not supporting U.S. efforts in the Middle East to overthrow the Islamic regime that governs Iran, the president said Meloni wanted the United States to “do
the job for her.” Trump exposed Meloni's weakness: “They depend on me to keep the Strait open”
Trump reacts to Meloni's comments In another passage of
the brief interview, when asked about Meloni's condemnation of his comments about Pope Leo, Trump replied: “She's the one who's unacceptable, because she doesn't care if Iran has a nuclear weapon that would blow up Italy in two
minutes if given the chance.”
“They (Italy) pay the highest energy costs in the world and are not even ready to fight for the Strait of Hormuz... They depend on Donald Trump to keep it open,” the president said.
Meloni, who campaigned in Italy presenting herself as a Trump ally. comes from suffering a severe defeat in a crucial referendum on a judicialreform that his government was pursuing and is now measuring his steps very carefully in the face of public opinion. This has led her to try to stay away from confrontations with Iran and to defend Pope Leo's interference in political matters, calling Trump's criticism
“unacceptable”. Trump exposed Meloni's weakness: “They depend on me to keep the Strait open”
