The President of the United States, Donald Trump, handed the World Cup to the Spanish national team and silver medals to the Argentine players.

The spotlight was on Lionel Messi, the Argentine star and captain of his team who has likely played his last World Cup and retires from international football with his head held high, having won everything with Argentina.

This is the second World Cup title for the Spanish team, which last won the top trophy in 2010. With this victory, Luis de la Fuente's team reached their 38th consecutive match without defeat, enjoying a golden generation that already won the Euro Cup in 2024.

Trump stated on Friday that being the host country of the World Cup had been a great triumph for the United States. "It turns out we are a football country, and I believe we will continue to be," the president said. "This has really united the world."

In the box alongside the Republican leader were his wife, Melania Trump, the President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum, the Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, and the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino. From the Spanish side, the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, were also in the same section.
