The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) thwarted an attempted assault by more than 15 terrorists against a military post in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
The incident, confirmed by the army, lasted several minutes and included the intensive use of anti-tank missiles and machine guns by the strikers.
During the clash, three Israeli soldiers were injured. One of them, a member of Battalion 90 of the Kfir Brigade, is in serious condition and was evacuated to a hospital, where his family has already been notified. Two other soldiers suffered minor injuries.
According to military information, the terrorists emerged from several tunnels in the vicinity and advanced toward the Israeli position with the objective of kidnapping soldiers.
The rapid response of the IDF made it possible to repel the attack and neutralize several of the assailants, while others fled with probable injuries.
Currently, an aerial operation is being maintained in the area to locate the remaining perpetrators, with the support of fighter jets that continue to strike targets linked to terrorist infrastructure.
This is not an isolated incident. Earlier in the week, in Beit Hanun, forces from Division 99 eliminated eight terrorists who were attempting to attack troops from the Northern Brigade.
These episodes show that terrorist organizations in Gaza seek to exploit vulnerabilities on the ground, resorting to tunnels and surprise attacks against army positions.
An officer consulted by the media outlet Walla indicated that the encounter of a tank with terrorists at such close range is an extremely unusual and concerning event: "The last time a tank ran over terrorists was on October 7. That says a lot. Meanwhile, as the army awaits maneuvering orders to take Gaza City, Hamas and other groups will try to take advantage of every operational gap"
The IDF remains on high alert in the south, with ongoing ground and air operations to prevent new infiltration and kidnapping attempts.
