Former congresswoman who eliminated Seguro Popular demands private medical care in hospital
Federica Quijano was hospitalized and demands help from her insurer after supporting the destruction of the public system
Federica Quijano, former federal deputy and member of the group Kabah, was hospitalized in an emergency in Mexico City due to intense back pain that prevents her from walking.
The former public official of the state government of Yucatán shared a video from her hospital bed. In it, Quijano is seen urgently requesting help from her insurer, Monterrey New York Life, with which she has been affiliated for more than 30 years.
She explained that, despite having scheduled her back surgery for May 5th, she couldn't proceed because the insurer requires a second medical evaluation by a specialist designated by them. "They ask me to schedule the surgery, I can't schedule my pain, I can't schedule my body," lamented Quijano.
"I ask you, please, to help me. Come, send me your doctor, send them to me because I can't go, I can't walk," she expressed visibly affected.
A reality check
Social media reacted immediately. Various users criticized that Quijano sought treatment in a private institution and not in the IMSS.
Meanwhile, while she was a federal deputy for the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico, an ally of Morena, the legislator approved the elimination of the Seguro Popular. According to CONEVAL, this decision caused 30 million Mexicans to lose access to medical services.
This way, Quijano experiences what millions of Mexicans suffer daily due to the collapsed health system inherited by former president López Obrador.
The utopian system of Denmark
Millions of Mexicans still remember when then-president López Obrador stated in his last government report that Mexico already had the best health system in the world, even better than Denmark's.
His words were perceived as an insult by those suffering from medicine shortages and deplorable conditions in their medical units.
The privilege of the political class and double standards
It is aggravating that the political class of the regime boasts a lifestyle that doesn't correspond with their actions. Former deputy Quijano and her fellow party members were responsible for abandoning the Mexican health system.
While the Seguro Popular, created during the presidency of PAN member Vicente Fox, was improvable, it allowed inter-institutional cooperation and guaranteed basic care, according to analysts.
Morena and its allies once again demonstrate that consistency is not part of their political DNA, like practically nothing they have done in power.
