In a recent session of the Congress of Jalisco, the deputy from Morena, Candelaria Ochoa, sparked controversy. She criticized her fellow legislators for their way of dressing and wearing makeup. She accused them of promoting hypersexualization and following stereotypes that, according to her, harm women.
During her speech, Ochoa stated that the Congress seemed like a fashion show. According to her, the legislators were competing to wear the most striking dress, the highest heels, the most painted lips, and the finest mascara.
Ochoa argued that these stereotypes force women to look "presentable" to men. According to her, this perpetuates a male pact that limits their autonomy.
