On Saturday, May 17, Mexicali was the scene of an unusual citizen protest. In the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, a massive "carnita asada" was held to demand the removal of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila.
Called on social media under the slogan "Massive carne asada against Marina del Pilar," the protest gathered thousands of citizens. Armed with grills, banners, and piñatas with the face of the governor, attendees expressed their discontent with multiple decisions of her government.
They also took the opportunity to mock the revocation of her and her husband Carlos Torres Torres's U.S. visa.

A call for mandate revocation
During the day, slogans like "Out with Marina!" were heard, and signs with messages of rejection were displayed. What began as a humorous call on social media turned into one of the most significant demonstrations in the region.
The organizers confirmed that this was the first of several actions. They are already collecting signatures to formally request the revocation of Ávila Olmeda's mandate.
