Uruguay is a hell of violence, homicides, and gunfire. So far in 2026, at least 40 children and adolescents have suffered gunshot wounds and 15 minors have been killed in Uruguay, according to records from the civil organization Plataforma de Infancias y Adolescencias (PIAS)
Press reports and NGOs recorded 18 children shot in April, a figure that jumped to 27 by the end of July, and reached 40 injured minors by the end of the first half of 2026.
As for homicides with firearms, there were 15 murders of minors, representing one of the most concerning rates in recent years.
This is practically equivalent to the death of 2 children per month due to criminal violence.
High-impact cases
Among the most serious incidents of the year is the shooting that occurred in July during illegal races in the quarries of Parque Rodó, where a 12-year-old boy was killed, and a 14-year-old adolescent ended up hospitalized due to gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Gabriela Valverde, is focused on tarnishing the memory of Jorge Larrañaga, claiming that the high number of police suicides is the fault of the former minister, due to a phrase Larrañaga uttered several years ago.
Uruguay is a bloodbath and the authorities are not providing answers. Unlimited violence and crime are hitting the population, and the government is standing idly by.
