Union corruption: Jorge Bermúdez embezzled union funds
The communist health unionist was accused by his colleagues of misappropriating workers' money
The board of directors of the Uruguayan Health Federation (FUS), the private health union, decided in a vote on several measures that directly affect two historic union leaders. The decision was made after a heated debate where there were accusations of "corruption," "hand in the till," and "stealing from the workers" regarding the union's money. The meeting was held after information became known that the money contributed by mutual societies to the Training Fund was being deposited into personal accounts of the Communist Party union leader, Jorge "Fogata" Bermúdez. Currently, Bermúdez is the Training Secretary of FUS, and for many years he was its General Secretary. That is, its main leader. The situation was reported by Marcos Franco, the current General Secretary of FUS.
