Worrying: Yamandú Orsi weaves alliances with dictator Gerardo Zamora

He is responsible for Santiago del Estero being the poorest province in Argentina

On August 6, Yamandú Orsi received the authoritarian governor of Santiago del Estero, Gerardo Zamora, with honors at the Presidential Residence.

"My gratitude for the hospitality and willingness to strengthen ties of friendship with our province," Zamora stated after the meeting.

This meeting confirms an increasingly clear political orientation: Frente Amplio is consolidating its ties with the most outdated, authoritarian, and corrupt elements of Kirchnerism.

Radical K and accomplice to Kirchnerist plundering: this is the profile chosen by Orsi

Since 2005, alternating power with his wife, Zamora has been the architect of the chronic poverty that plagues the province of Santiago del Estero.

He is not a minor ally: he is a key figure in "K radicalism," that authoritarian mutation of the old centennial party that surrendered to the designs of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who was convicted of corruption.

Zamora supported every institutional abuse of Kirchnerism. He was complicit in the economic depletion, the partisan use of the State, and the systematic persecution of dissidents.

The double standard of progressivism

Zamora participated as a featured speaker at the "Smart Cities Summit 2025," an event that, in theory, promotes innovation, sustainability, and urban development. Ironically, he was invited as an example of state modernization, even though poverty, repression, and backwardness have prevailed in his province for decades.

The truth is that there is no press freedom in Santiago del Estero, the judiciary is co-opted by political power, and the persecution of opponents is systematic. In 2023, libertarian activists of Javier Milei were arrested and held incommunicado without cause in Santiago del Estero, under Zamora's orders. Meanwhile, he ordered the water supply to be cut off for those who did not vote for Kirchnerism.

In 2022, he was responsible for a terrible tragedy: a girl was crushed by an official truck during one of his political caravans. That same year, while poverty deepened, Zamora devoted himself to buying airplanes with public funds.

Meanwhile, organizations linked to his power —and to his wife's— led a massive land occupation, with the complicity of a judiciary co-opted by the Zamora Clan.

Smart Cities Summit 2025: internationalized cynicism

The international forum, organized by El Observador, was supported by the province of Santiago del Estero and Aeropuertos Uruguay as Main Sponsors, and by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Toyota, and Ciemsa as Silver Sponsors.

What was seen was a display of hypocrisy and a true embarrassment for the Río de la Plata region. Gerardo Zamora, far from hiding his failures, openly admitted them with an unrepentant speech: "Santiago del Estero remains one of the poorest provinces in the country," he stated, as if he were not responsible for that reality after twenty years in power.

Meanwhile, Orsi was honored with the closing of the event. As usual, his empty, disorganized, and contentless speech was only surpassed by his lack of punctuality: "It's a strange situation, after so many people having spoken and I wasn't there. I didn't hear anything, just the end," he admitted, once again embarrassing all Uruguayans.

Imitating the impoverishing Kirchnerist model

Only offstage was it possible to find a somewhat understandable speech: in the press conference after the event and only because he was asked specific questions.

Orsi defended state intervention in productive sectors such as dairy and family livestock —justifying the purchase of land by the National Colonization Institute, under the argument of "protecting" vulnerable activities—, revealing that the Frente Amplio government only wants to finish destroying the country's economy.

Regarding the National Budget, he showed a conformist attitude toward the increase in public spending and the pressure from union groups for greater benefits.

He also acknowledged: "There are issues that are indeed on the table and have to do with the global minimum tax, which we mentioned during the campaign, which will have to be modified because we are obliged to do so," confirming the openness to higher tax burdens under international pressure.

Constant threats to freedom

The unbreakable growth of the state apparatus and the alliances with Kirchnerism, such as the presence of Gerardo Zamora in Montevideo, should set off all the alarms in every citizen who values freedom.

Yamandú Orsi has decided to open Uruguay's doors to one of the darkest sectors of Argentine politics: K radicalism. Behind this alliance lies a power project that despises individual freedoms, mocks the efforts of taxpayers, and silences those who think differently.

This is one of the figures who most clearly embodies corruption, authoritarianism, impoverishment, and systematic political persecution, symbols of one of the darkest periods in Argentina.

The Argentine example is there to warn, not to imitate. Handing over power to the left ends up destroying the prosperity and autonomy of citizens. In Argentina, fortunately, it is coming to an end... but in Uruguay, it is just beginning.
