UAR leaders met with the CEO of World Rugby to move forward with a joint bid that also includes Brazil, Uruguay and Chile to host the World Cup

The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) took a key step in its goal of organizing the 2035 World Cup with the visit of Alan Gilpin, CEO of World Rugby, who participated in meetings to analyze the technical viability of the candidacy.

The project is not limited to the country, but proposes a joint organization in South America.

The initiative contemplates adding Brazil, Uruguay and Chile as venues, in a regional strategy that seeks to strengthen the development of rugby and present a competitive proposal at the international level.

” The 2035 candidacy represents a federal objective and a legacy project that transcends our borders. Receiving Alan Gilpin to advance this technical analysis is a fundamental step in demonstrating that the region is ready. We want a World Cup that reflects the passion and development that rugby has achieved in every corner of our territory,” said the president of the UAR, Gabriel

Travaglini.

Important Argentine and regional rugby leaders also participated in the meetings, such as Agustín Pichot, Félix Páez Molina and Sol Iglesias, who work in different areas related to the development of the sport.

With this application, Argentina seeks to consolidate its growth in international rugby, where in recent years Los Pumas have achieved greater prominence both in the format of 15 and in the seven, positioning themselves closer to traditional powers. However, your application will not be easy. Other countries such as Spain, Italy, Japan, which already organized the tournament in 2019, and the United Arab Emirates also presented their projects to host the

event.

On the other hand, the 2035 World Cup appears to be the closest available option, since the 2027 and 2031 editions already have confirmed venues, Australia and the United States respectively. The final decision on the venue will be made in November 2027, once the evaluation process for all proposals has been completed
