FIFA approved a historic increase in financial prizes for the 2026 World Cup and confirmed that a total of 871 million dollars will be distributed among the 48 participating teams, a record figure for the tournament. The decision was taken during a new meeting of the FIFA Council in Vancouver, Canada, as a prelude to the body's 76th Congress that will take place this week

.

This increase represents 15% more than the Qatar 2022 edition and accompanies the expansion of the tournament, which for the first time since 1998 will have more teams. As detailed by the agency, the new scheme contemplates increases in different concepts linked to the participation and preparation of the selections

.

First, preparation funds will increase from 1.5 million dollars to 2.5 million for each qualified federation, while the amount guaranteed to compete in the World Cup will rise from 9 to 10 million dollars. In addition, subsidies will be added to cover logistics, travel and delegation expenses that will exceed 16
