The Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo, assured that the agricultural sector is going through a period of strong growth and stated that it could generate significant additional foreign exchange income this year.
According to official estimates, agriculture would provide up to an extra USD 8.7 billion in exports, in a key context for the country's accumulation of reserves.
The official's statements come as the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic is making progress in its objective of strengthening its international reserves, with the goal of reaching USD 10 billion by 2026.
Through a message on the social network X, Caputo focused on the immediate impact of the economic measures implemented by the Government of Javier Milei on agriculture.

“Few notice the extraordinary reaction of our agricultural producers to the tax cuts we have made on exports (withholding) and imports (tariffs on capital goods, herbicides, irrigation equipment, permission to import used machinery, etc.). The minister also questioned that the potential of agriculture does not receive the same level of analysis as other economic activities. The projections for 2026
According to the projections of the Ministry of Economy, in a conservative scenario, the sector's exports would grow by USD 3.7 billion compared

However, in a more favorable context in terms of international prices and production volume, foreign sales could reach close to USD 42 billion, implying an increase of up to USD 8.7 billion compared
to previous records.
These prospects are especially relevant to the strategy of the Central Bank, which continues to accumulate currencies in the foreign exchange market. The bank led by Santiago Bausili maintains a streak of 53 consecutive days with a buying balance, in a framework of
exchange rate stability.
In this context, last Friday, the BCRA acquired USD 172 million, the highest daily amount recorded in March. Throughout the week, purchases totaled USD 485 million, while so far in 2026 the agency has accumulated more than USD
3.7 billion.
In this way, the Government of Milei highlights the central role of agriculture as a currency generator, stressing the impact of tax reduction measures and the potential of a record harvest to strengthen reserves and boost economic growth.
