The Miami Grand Prix offered an intense race from the start and ended with the consolidation of Kimi Antonelli as the absolute leader of the championship. The Mercedes driver was left with the victory after a tight definition with Lando Norris. In parallel, Franco Colapinto completed an outstanding performance when he finished in eighth position
.The start was chaotic: Charles Leclerc took the lead after Antonelli and Max Verstappen passed each other in the first braking. The Dutchman, in addition, suffered a spin that relegated him to the qualifier, although without major consequences. In that context, Colapinto made a great start and advanced from eighth to sixth place, even momentarily surpassing
Lewis Hamilton. As the laps went on, the race maintained a changing pace. Antonelli regained the lead in the first few laps, although Leclerc surpassed it again before Norris joined the fight for the lead. The competition was quickly neutralized by two accidents: one involving Isack Hadjar and the other more shocking one involving Pierre Gasly, who suffered a rollover after a touch with Liam Lawson. Fortunately, in both cases the pilots ended up unharmed. After the relaunch, Norris took the lead and began to set the pace, while Antonelli kept on the lookout.
Further back, Colapinto was in the points zone, in a fight apart from the strongest teams such as Mercedes, McLaren
and Ferrari.Strategy also played its part. The Argentinian stretched his first arrest in the hope of a rain that never came, allowing him to climb momentarily to fourth position. However, after his time in the pits, he returned to eighth place, a position in which he remained at a good pace until the end
.In the second half of the race, Antonelli finally regained the lead after overtaking Verstappen, who had inherited the lead by the saves, and then resisted Norris' final attempt. The Italian crossed the finish line three seconds ahead and achieved his third consecutive victory in four competitions. Behind, Oscar Piastri completed the podium after beating Leclerc in the final laps. The Ferrari driver suffered a stoppage and fell to sixth position, behind George Russell and Verstappen himself
.For his part, Colapinto closed a solid performance without errors. With a wide advantage over Carlos Sainz (9th) and close to Hamilton (7th) over the end, he saw the checkered flag in eighth place, matching his best result in Formula 1 (Azerbaijan 2024 with Williams) and achieving his best performance since his arrival at Alpine. Closing out the top 10, Alex Albon took the last scoring position, thus signing off a solid weekend for Williams
.After his great race in Miami, Colapinto will face his next challenge in three weeks with the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place between Friday, May 22 and Sunday, May 24.
