The terrorist group, Hamas, began to show concern about the regional impact of the conflict and called on the Persian regime to curb attacks against Gulf States.

In the midst of the growing escalation of war in the Middle East and the open confrontation between Israel and the Iranian regime, the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launched a direct appeal to Tehran to suspend bombing against neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf. The extremist organization said it was “deeply concerned” about the development of the regional conflict and, although it maintained that Iran has the right to defend itself against Israeli and American attacks, it maintained that the priority should be to stop the war. According to the movement itself, “the interest of the Islamic nation and the region lies in stopping this war.”

In a statement released through its digital channels, Hamas said that it “follows with deep concern” the evolution of a conflict that, according to its version, was triggered by a “US-Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which violates the rules of international law and international humanitarian law and threatens security and stability in the region and in the world.”

Based on this situation, the terrorist group stated that it “calls on all States and international organizations to work immediately to stop it” and also “expresses its appreciation for the efforts made by various countries to prevent the outbreak of war and to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy

”.

However, the message also included a direct request to the Iranian regime. “While the movement affirms the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to respond to this aggression by all available means, in accordance with international norms and laws, it calls on its brothers in Iran not to attack neighboring countries,” the group said in its statement. Hamas, a Sunni organization that maintains close political and military ties with the Iranian authorities, is part of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” against Israel, a Teheran-led bloc that brings together various militias and armed groups hostile to the Jewish State

.

The statement reiterated that request in another part of the text: “At the same time, it affirms the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to respond to this aggression by all available means (...). The Movement urges brothers in Iran to avoid attacking neighboring countries and urges all States in the region to cooperate to stop this aggression and preserve the bonds of brotherhood between

them.”

In the first fortnight of the war, the Iranian regime has not only launched attacks against Israel, but it has also bombed Persian Gulf countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq, territories where the United States

maintains important strategic military bases.

Regional tension increased even more this week after the new Iranian supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, threatened to continue attacks against U.S. bases in the Middle East and to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed, a nerve center of global energy trade through which approximately 20% of global oil circulates.

In its final message, Hamas once again insisted that it is following “with deep concern the ongoing war in the region” and reiterated its condemnation of what it described as “the American-Zionist aggression against Iran”, which, according to the group, “violates the norms of international law and threatens peace and security in the region and the world”.
