At least one person died and two others were seriously injured after the impact of an Iranian missile with a cluster warhead in central Israel on Monday.
The attack caused six impacts in different urban areas, including the cities of Yehud, Or Yehuda, Holon and Bat Yam.
The commander of the Tel Aviv District of the Israeli police, Haim Sargarof, confirmed that the missile was carrying a load of submunitions that dispersed after the main explosion.
As explained by the official, the two critically injured were outside shelters or safe rooms at the time of the impact.
“The incident could have ended only with material damage if they had complied with safety instructions,” Sargarof said.
A fatal victim on a construction site
The most serious impact occurred on a construction site in Yehud, where two workers in their 40s were hit by shrapnel.
One of them died from his injuries, while the second was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Another man was also seriously injured in Or Yehuda, according to medical teams that came
to the emergency.
Paramedic Ori Lazarovitch, a member of the Magen David Adom emergency service, confirmed that two patients were evacuated in critical condition.
“We arrived at the site in minutes and are working to make sure we find everyone affected in the different scenarios,” he said.
Material damage and multiple sources of impact
The images released from the affected areas show craters on the ground, damaged vehicles and buildings affected by the
explosions.
Cluster bombs release numerous small submunitions that are dispersed over a wide area, increasing the risk to the civilian population.
In total, six points of impact were registered in the center of the country, which required the deployment of rescue and security teams to locate possible explosive remains and assist those affected.
A woman was injured in Rishon Lezion
During the morning, another person was injured in Rishon
Lezion.
A woman suffered minor head injuries after rocks broke off after the partial detonation of a submunition.
She was taken to Shamir Medical Center, where she received medical attention and was later discharged.
Hezbollah also launched attacks from the north
.
In parallel with the Iranian attack, the armed group Hezbollah launched rockets and drones against northern Israel, further raising regional tension
.
These attacks are part of the military escalation that has intensified in recent weeks between Israel and Iran.
Iran welcomed the attack and mentioned the supreme leader's new successor
.
The Iranian state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting welcomed the offensive and assured that it was the “first wave of missiles under the command of Mojtaba
Khamenei”.
Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as the successor to the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, after his death was confirmed on Sunday.
The mention reinforces the reading that the attack is part of a new phase of the conflict between Iran and Israel, marked by the use of higher-impact weapons and a growing participation of regional allies.
