Inter Miami will host Toronto FC this Saturday at 8:30 PM Argentina time, in a new round of Major League Soccer. The team led by Guillermo Hoyos will look to end a streak of four matches without a win and will have its main star available.
The presence of Lionel Messi had been in doubt after the incident that occurred in the last match against Philadelphia Union, which ended 2-2. Finally, the MLS Disciplinary Committee decided to impose a financial sanction on the Argentine captain, although no suspension was imposed.
The amount of the fine applied to Messi was not officially disclosed.
What happened between Messi and Quinn Sullivan
The episode that led to the investigation occurred during the 101st minute of the match against Philadelphia. Messi had a heated exchange with Quinn Sullivan, a 22-year-old American player.
The footage captured the Argentine forward visibly angry and then touching Sullivan's head. The Philadelphia player responded, and both faced each other for a few moments.
The situation forced referee Filip Dujic to intervene, who separated the players to prevent the confrontation from escalating.
The action was later analyzed by MLS authorities, who determined that Messi violated the competition's rules regarding contact with hands to the face, head, or neck of an opponent.
Inter Miami needs to win again
With the disciplinary resolution confirmed, Lionel Messi will be able to play against Toronto FC and will once again be one of Inter Miami's main weapons to try to return to victory.
The team is going through an irregular moment and has accumulated four consecutive matches without a win, so it needs to earn three points to recover positions and change the dynamics of recent matches.
