After the favorable decision for Argentina in the trial for the expropriation of YPF, the Attorney of the Treasury of the Nation, Sebastián Amerio, provided details on the legal strategy that allowed a million-dollar conviction to be reversed and highlighted the coordinated work of the Government of Javier Miley.
In statements with Radio Rivadavia, Amerio remarked that the result is the consequence of sustained and articulated work between different areas of the State.
“We worked together, with a unit from several areas of government, with proactivity. For 10 years, this case did not have a favorable resolution, and from the end of the year until now, those favorable resolutions began to appear, which of course filled us with confidence, but we have always been very cautious, because the chances of success were less than 10%. I honestly say that,” he said
. Sebastian Amerio.
The ruling of the New York Second Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a previous ruling that forced the country to pay more than 16 billion dollars, in a litigation generated by Kirchnerism, which lasted for years and represented a strong risk to public finances. In this context, the prosecutor emphasized the importance of having maintained a firm legal strategy
.
Regarding international support, Amerio also referred to the political link between President Javier Milei and US President Donald Trump, and his influence on the development of the case.
“I am convinced that of course that helped. Here, honestly, what I think happened is that, from the beginning of President Javier Milei's term of office, a proactive attitude was taken with regard to the case, it was not negotiation for the sake of negotiation, but rather that we had solid legal arguments, we were convinced that we were right. Today, that conviction was reflected in a ruling that is absolutely favorable, and of course several factors influenced,” he
said. Javier Milei and Horacio Marín.
In turn, the official insisted that the judicial result validates the position held by the Milei Government throughout the process. “Based on the House ruling, what they said is that we were legally right and this leaves us alone,”
he said.
The ruling represents a turning point in a case that for more than a decade had not registered decisions favorable to Argentina. According to Amerio, the change began to be evident recently, based on a different approach to defending the case, based on the strength of legal arguments and greater
internal coordination.
In this way, the judicial decision not only implies economic relief, but also a support for the strategy adopted by the libertarian administration.
