At least seven people died and another 18 were injured this Friday as a result of a suicide bombing carried out near a police station in the city of Kabal, located in the Swat district of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The attack occurred while a demonstration was taking place to reject the violence of extremist groups and demand greater security measures in one of the most affected regions.

According to initial information released by authorities and the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the attacker detonated the explosives he was carrying near the police station, where hundreds of people had gathered to participate in the protest. The explosion caused panic among attendees and immediately mobilized emergency teams, who transported the injured to hospitals in the area.

Police sources indicated that several of the victims have serious injuries, so the death toll could rise in the coming hours.

So far, no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the scene of numerous attacks carried out by insurgent organizations and groups linked to Islamist extremism, which have intensified their actions against security forces, public officials, and civilians in recent years.

The attack occurred precisely during a mobilization organized to condemn terrorist violence and demand greater security guarantees for the region's inhabitants. The gathering included community leaders, political representatives, and residents concerned about the increase in attacks recorded in recent months.

After the explosion, the Pakistani government condemned the attack and expressed its condolences to the families of the victims. Authorities assured that those responsible will be pursued and reaffirmed their commitment to continue operations against terrorist organizations operating in the northwest of the country.

Pakistan has experienced an increase in extremist violence in recent years, especially in the border provinces with Afghanistan.

Suicide bombings, attacks on government facilities, and ambushes against security forces continue to represent one of the main challenges to the country's stability, while the government maintains military and intelligence operations to contain the advance of the armed groups responsible for these events.
