The Donald Trump administration officially congratulated Argentina and President Javier Milei for assuming the presidency of the International Alliance for Remembrance of the Holocaust, in an event that represents a historic milestone for the country and the region
.The recognition was disseminated through a message from the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, who valued the role that Argentina will assume at the head of the international organization in a global context marked by the revival of denial discourses.
“At a time of increasing distortion and denial of the Holocaust, the leadership of the IHRA is critical. We commend President Milei's commitment to spreading the truth and paying tribute to survivors,” said the Trump administration official
.
Weeks ago, it was reported that Argentina became the first country in South America to lead this intergovernmental organization, which brings together governments and experts with the objective of promoting education, research and the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma people, in addition to promoting the fight against anti-Semitism
at a global level.The Argentine Foreign Ministry officially confirmed the inauguration this Wednesday and detailed what the organization will be led during the term of office.
