The Donald Trump administration officially congratulated Argentina and President Javier Milei for assuming the presidency of the International Alliance for Remembrance of the Holocaust, in an event that represents a historic milestone for the country and the region
.
The recognition was disseminated through a message from the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, who valued the role that Argentina will assume at the head of the international organization in a global context marked by the revival of denial discourses.
“At a time of increasing distortion and denial of the Holocaust, the leadership of the IHRA is critical. We commend President Milei's commitment to spreading the truth and paying tribute to survivors,” said the Trump administration official

Weeks ago, it was reported that Argentina became the first country in South America to lead this intergovernmental organization, which brings together governments and experts with the objective of promoting education, research and the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma people, in addition to promoting the fight against anti-Semitism
at a global level.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry officially confirmed the inauguration this Wednesday and detailed what the organization will be led during the term of office.
According to the statement, the presidency will be led by Marcelo Mindlin, head of the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum and Pampa Energía, who will work in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“By decision of President Javier Milei, the Presidency will be held by Marcelo Mindlin, in coordination with the Argentine Foreign Ministry, and will have among its main axes the projection of the IHRA in Latin America and the strengthening of access to archives linked to the Holocaust,” said the official statement of the ministry headed by Pablo Quirno.

The same text underlined the relevance of the event: “The Argentine Presidency, which will take place under the motto 'Expanding the Frontiers of Memory', constitutes a milestone for the IHRA, as it is the first time that a South American
country exercises this responsibility.”
Along these lines, the Government reaffirmed its position in relation to historical memory and education: “The Argentine Republic reaffirms its commitment to memory, education and research on the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma, as well as to the fight against anti-Semitism, so that its teachings endure across generations and transcend borders.”
The support of the United States is part of a close bilateral relationship between the two governments, in which Trump has repeatedly expressed his support for the Milei administration in different areas of international cooperation.
