The United Kingdom set off alarms again in Europe after confirming that its armed forces managed to stop a secret Russian submarine operation in areas close to its critical infrastructure. The maneuver, detected in the North Atlantic, was interpreted by British authorities as part of a broader strategy by Moscow to monitor, and even potentially threaten, key communication and energy systems
.As reported by the British Ministry of Defense, the operation lasted several weeks and involved the constant monitoring of at least one Russian submarine, while other units carried out discreet activities in sensitive areas. These areas include submarine telecommunications cables and gas pipelines, considered essential for the economic and energy functioning of the
country.
London's response was immediate. In coordination with allies such as Norway, an extensive military device was deployed that included frigates, maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters specialized in anti-submarine warfare. The objective was clear: to detect, deter and reveal any attempt at hostile activity in the British maritime environment
.Although the authorities confirmed that there was no damage to the infrastructure, the political message was strong. Defense Secretary John Healey warned that any attempt at sabotage by Russia will have “serious consequences”, in a direct signal to President Vladimir Putin
