The U.S. forces successfully intercepted two ballistic missiles launched by Iran against U.S. military positions in Kuwait, in a new episode that once again raises doubts about the viability of the ceasefire reached between Washington and Tehran.

The information was confirmed by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which detailed that the action took place at 11 p.m. (ET) on Sunday and that neither of the projectiles managed to reach their target.

“The missiles were defeated immediately and no U.S. personnel were injured,” the military agency stated in a release shared via the social network X.

A new challenge from the Iranian regime

The incident represents a new escalation led by the Iranian regime, which in recent weeks has been repeatedly accused of violating commitments made during negotiations to reduce regional tension.

Shortly after the attack, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for an operation against a base used by U.S. forces to launch military actions on Iranian territory.

However, the statement released by state media in Tehran did not specify the exact location that would have been attacked.

From Washington's perspective, this type of action demonstrates the persistence of an aggressive strategy by the Islamic Republic, even amid diplomatic attempts to reach a negotiated solution.

Kuwait denounces a serious threat to its security

Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that their air defense systems participated in the interception of hostile missiles and drones.

According to the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army, the defenses activated emergency protocols after detecting aerial threats directed against the country.

Alert sirens sounded in various areas of the territory while missile defense systems neutralized the projectiles.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as a "serious threat" to national stability and denounced a new violation of international law.

Additionally, it accused the Iranian regime of engaging in a dangerous escalation that jeopardizes the safety of civilians and strategic infrastructures.

CENTCOM reaffirms its commitment to regional defense

After the successful interception, the U.S. Central Command reiterated that it will continue to protect its forces and allies against any aggression from Iran.

"U.S. forces remain vigilant and prepared to defend our interests and support the ongoing ceasefire," the agency stated.

The rapid military response prevented casualties and material damage, but once again highlighted the fragility of the regional scenario.

The ceasefire remains under pressure

Since the ceasefire between the United States and Iran came into effect on April 8, Kuwait has reported several drone and missile attacks attributed to the Iranian regime.

These episodes occur while negotiations led by the Trump administration continue to reach a broader agreement that includes the Iranian nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the end of Tehran's destabilizing activities in the Middle East.

The new aggression reinforces the concerns of Washington and its regional allies about the true willingness of the Iranian regime to respect the commitments made and move towards lasting de-escalation.

Meanwhile, U.S. forces maintain additional defense systems deployed in the region to respond to any new threat from the Islamic Republic.
