The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, denounced that Russia violated the truce announced by Vladimir Putin for the Victory Day celebrations and assured that Russian forces continued to carry out attacks and military operations at various points on the front.
According to Zelensky in a message disseminated by the Ukrainian presidency, “there was not even a symbolic attempt to cease fire.” The leader maintained that, despite the announcement made by Moscow, Russian troops continued to bomb Ukrainian positions and maintained attacks in several regions of the country.

The truce had been presented by the Kremlin as a temporary gesture for the celebrations of May 9, one of the most important dates for Russia, commemorating the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. However, Ukraine warned that it was a propaganda maneuver by Moscow.
According to the Ukrainian government, during the hours following the formal start of the truce, Russian attacks were recorded in various areas of eastern and southern Ukraine, including artillery bombardments and drone operations. The authorities in Kiev also reported movements of Russian troops near strategic sectors of the front.
